Brazil Visa Vitem I Missionary- Non-U.S. Citizens
(VITEM I – those going to Brazil to be volunteers for a religious entity, social service organization or nonprofit non-governmental organization)
STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL VITEM Is

  • A) Applicant’s Passport: original, undamaged; valid for at least another 6 months, with at least two blank visa pages.
  • B) Visa Application Form: printed receipt of the visa application form filled out and successfully submitted online duly signed by the passport holder (or parents/legal guardian of a minor) and with the photo glued on the appropriate boxes.

  • C) Photograph: one recent, clear, front view, in color, professional 2″x2″ passport photo of the applicant with a plain white or off-white background.

  • D) Proof of continuous residence within this Consulate’s jurisdiction (12 months): notarized copy of driver’s license, utility bills, residential lease, bank statements and in some cases school documents are all acceptable documents as proof of jurisdiction.
  • F) Birth certificate*: original or copy of birth certificate listing parent’s names, date and place of birth.
  • Birth Certificates not issued by the US government must be legalized by the Brazilian consular office with jurisdiction over its place of issuance;
  • Documents not issued in English, Portuguese, Spanish or French must also be accompanied by a translation done by a sworn translator in Brazil, by competent translator acknowledged in the country the document was issued and legalized by the Brazilian consular office with jurisdiction over its place of issuance or by Diplomatic Representation of the country that issued the document in the United States.
  • FEES: Individual money order from the United States Postal Service in the exact amount for each visa requested listing applicant’s name on the section “From”.

Example: John will come in person to submit 1 visa applications: 1 for himself (American-main visa holder) and 1 for his wife (Mexican-visa dependent). During his appointment he must have 2 USPS money orders: one from him in the amount of US$ 250.00 (US$ 60.00 basic visa fee and US$ 190.00 reciprocity processing fee); one from his fellow in the amount of US$ 60.00.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS (CASE 1G)

  • J) Police Clearance*: which must:
  • Be an original document issued within the past 60 days on a standard letterhead with contact information of the issuing authority;
  • Have sufficient information about the applicant to determine it is not a homonym. Examples: full name, residential address, date of birth, identification document (passport, driver’s license or state ID), social security number;
  • Reflect where the applicant has lived on the past 12 months and match the applicant’s proof of address.

Note 1: Those that have lived in the United States within the last 12 months must present a standard police clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation – FBI listing applicant’s full name, address and last 4 digits of social security number.
From sponsoring organization in Brazil:
R.1-3) Notarized letter of invitation issued by Brazilian sponsoring organization:

  • Attesting to the conditions of the trip (pecuniary conditions, type of services to be provided, and locations where volunteering will be pursued);
  • Guaranteeing maintenance of volunteer (and family, if applicable) while in Brazil, including payment of all hospital and medical expenses of applicant (and his/her dependents), and his/her/their repatriation at the end of term;

R.4) Notarized copy of Brazilian sponsoring organization by-laws; act in which the organization’s directors were nominated, and proof that it is in existence.
R.5) Notarized copy of Brazilian sponsoring organization’s registration at the “Conselho de Assistência Social” or whenever applicable, certificate qualifying as an organization of public interest issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice. 
From applicant:
R.6) Notarized copy of the identification page(s) and all pages with visas of applicant’s passport;
R.7) Notarized document(s) proving applicant’s professional experience or qualification compatible with activities to be carried out in Brazil: curriculum vitae (résumé), diplomas and transcripts.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
If the not applying with a US passport:

  • G) Proof of Legal Residency: notarized copy of visa, permanent resident card or US passport or US birth certificate. 

If you will be applying for a visa on a passport issued by Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria or Taiwan:

  • H) Detailed information on applicant’s place of lodging in Brazil (hotel reservation or letter from Brazilian host), flight and notarized bank statements reflecting the past 3 months are required.

* ATTENTION:

  • Documents not issued by American or Brazilian authorities must be legalized by the Brazilian consular office with jurisdiction over its place of issuance;
  • Documents not issued in English, Portuguese, Spanish or French must also be accompanied by a translation done by a sworn translator in Brazil, by competent translator acknowledged in the country the document was issued and legalized by the Brazilian consular office with jurisdiction over its place of issuance or by Diplomatic Representation of the country that issued the document in the US.
  • VISAS for volunteers must be accompanied by a 65% reduced copies of all of the applicable requirements
  • Medical or dental volunteer services require previous authorization from the Federal or Regional Council of Medicine or Dentistry of Brazil.

VITEM I for volunteers (Case 1F) requires consultation to Brazilian immigration authorities. An answer on these cases takes at average 2-3 months.
